Ask your customer list a real question
"Which customers in Spokane still get paper bills?" is a simple question. Until this month, BasicBMS couldn't answer it. The customer list had one search box and a dropdown that picked which single field to search: name, or city, or phone. One at a time.
So the answer came from an export, a spreadsheet and a filter, and it was stale the next day.
What changed
Every list screen now has the same search bar: Customers, Inventory, Invoices, Work Orders, Suppliers, Purchase Orders and Service Points. Type in Quick search for the obvious lookup. Or click Filter, pick a field, pick how to compare it, and add it as a chip. Stack as many chips as the question needs:
- City is Spokane · InvoiceDelivery is Paper
- Paid is No · Amount > 500 · Due date before October 1
- Scheduled is Yes · Complete is No
- Route is North · Active meter serial is empty
Click a chip to change it, click its × to drop it. The list reruns each time.
Here's how to actually do it: How to search a list and save the search.
The parts that save real time
Saved searches. The search you run every Monday gets a name and a place under Saved. One click brings back the chips and the sort.
Your own fields are searchable. Custom properties a company keeps on its customers, items or invoices show up under Properties, next to the built-in fields. A property nobody ever set counts as its default, so "InvoiceDelivery is Paper" finds the customers who were never switched off paper, not just the ones someone clicked.
Totals follow the search. On Invoices, the count and dollar total at the bottom add up every match, not just the 25 rows on screen. "Unpaid and over 60 days" comes with its own number.
A search is a link. The whole search lives in the page address. Paste it to a coworker and they see the same list.
Inventory used to ask you to learn regular expressions. It doesn't anymore.
The old Inventory screen had per-column boxes and a help panel explaining the caret, the dollar sign and the pipe character, with a link to an outside cheat sheet. That's gone. starts with, is, and a chip that holds several values cover what people actually used it for.
The honest part
Chips are joined with and; the values inside one chip are joined with or. There's no "this field or that field" across chips, and no nested groups. Saved searches are personal: there is no company-wide saved search yet, and saving under a name you already used replaces it. Each screen searches its own records; there is no single search across everything.
Also new on Customers: a search can become a call list. Tick customers, or take every result, and add them to a Sales Queue. That's its own post.
Still modular
Start with what you run. Six core modules (Customers, Employees, Suppliers, Payables, Invoices, and a full general ledger) for $150 a month. Add Work Orders, Communication, or Projects for $25 each. Every user included, no per-seat games, no forced bundles.
Implementation is a one-time build: we configure your modules around your workflow and load your data, so you don't start on a blank screen.
