How to
How to push a new layout to forms you already have
You added a time panel to the work order template, or moved the account summary on the invoice, and it shows up only on forms created from now on. That's by design: every form keeps its own copy of its layout, so editing a template never rearranges an invoice a customer already has. Layout Push is how you deliberately apply one layout to forms that already exist: invoices, quotes, sales orders, work orders, purchase orders and bills. It changes which panels a form shows, in what order, at what width and with what settings. It never changes the data in them.
Before you start
- You have the Layout Push role. Out of the box only the main administrator does; others get it on Configuration → Security.
- The layout you want exists, on a template or on one form you've arranged the way you like.
- You know which forms should get it, by type, by style, or by the template they were made from.
Steps
Open Configuration → Layout Push.
1 · Source layout. Pick the Template whose layout you want. To use a particular form's layout instead, click Use as source on that form in the list further down the page.
2 · Target forms. Filter the forms by Type, Style and Born from (the template they were made from). Tick Include templates to update other templates too.
Look at Layouts in this list. Forms are grouped by the layout they have now, such as "Layout A · 12 (9 parts)". A small group is usually a form someone customised by hand; leave it out if that customisation should stay. Use Select all or Select none and tick the groups to change.
3 · Preview & push. Choose what happens to panels the source doesn't have: Keep puts them after the source's panels; Remove takes them off (their data is kept and comes back on undo).
Click Preview N form(s) and read what will change.
Click Push to N form(s). The app says
Layout pushed to N form(s).
What happens to each panel. A panel on both the form and the source keeps the form's data and takes the source's position, width and settings. A panel only the source has is added, empty, ready to fill. A panel only the form has is kept or removed, as you chose.
Undo. Every push is listed under Push history with an undo. Undo puts each form's layout back exactly as it was. A form changed after the push, edited by hand or pushed again, is left alone and listed as "Layout changed after the push — not restored.", so undo newer pushes first.
What posts behind it
Nothing. A layout is presentation. No amounts, lines or ledger entries change, on any form.
When it won’t let you
You do not have permission to push layouts Your login doesn't have the Layout Push role.
Preview before pushing. The push button stays unavailable until you've previewed the current selection.
Nothing to change — every target already has this layout. The forms you picked already match the source.
A push is limited to 5,000 forms. Narrow the filters and push in batches.
What this doesn't do
It doesn't change a form's data, its numbers or what it posted. It doesn't touch printed or emailed copies already sent. Templates keep shaping only new forms unless you push them. And undo won't restore a form that changed after the push.
